ABOUT

The work of artist Tanya Hoddinott had its birth in collage and painting. From a young age transferring images onto painted surfaces was a tool used to explore ideas about identity and psychological variations. Born in 1966, Hoddinott grew up in Queensland moving to Melbourne, where she studied at the Victoria College in 1990 and 1991-1993 at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology majoring in Sculpture. She is currently finishing a Masters Degree at the Queensland College of the Arts, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. Since 1993, she has exhibited in over 20 solo shows and numerous group exhibition nationally. Her work is represented in several national collections as well as private collections internationally.

This website was created as a hub for the artists Masters Degree and a creative space where practice-led research projects are visible at a click. It is designed specifically as a work in progress site and the visitor may enter a project to explore work and research material as a way of interacting with the work.

Hoddinott lives and works on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.

WHAT TO KNOW

Information

This website was made as a hub for images of work in progress, finished work, research and archival material and writing.

The studio-based research project will be fully realised in an exegesis and exhibition with the current working title 'Tangible Memory'

I am a Masters student at the Queensland College of the Arts, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia 2021-2023.

My Site is an online art platform dedicated to exploring the post-medium condition. Here, I showcase my work that explores the boundaries between painting, photography, sculpture, and natural materials. I strive to create pieces that explore the use of touch, memory, time, and space in a way that is both meaningful and captivating. My Site encourages viewers to think beyond the visual and experience art in a way that can inspire them to reflect on their own lives. I invite you to explore my site and to experience art in a whole new way.
  •  exploring post-medium contexts and the relationship between photography, painting and sculpture.  Investigating tactile photographs and mechanical paint marks, working on both sides of the material. Space is considered in a sculptural sense through the image, and brings the past back into the present to reintegrate.  Rosalind Krauss and Rosemary Hawker are two of the writers who provide a context for the post-medium theory while artists Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke are exemplars who offer both understanding of particular modes of practice but also importantly points of difference, which enables me to contribute and hopefully expand on the conversation.
